Approximately 9,000 people die each year from cardiovascular disease in Ireland with 70% of cardiac arrests occurring out of hospital. The chance of survival increases by 68% if a defibrillator is used with CPR within 3-5 minutes of a cardiac arrest. Having a network of accessible defibrillators can significantly improve the chance of survival because for every minute without defibrillation, the chance of survival decreases by 10%.
Investing in the community that invests in us
Working with local Community First Responder (CFR) Groups in our common bond, including Leixlip, Clane, Robertstown, and Edenderry CFRs, along with Prosperous FC, several key locations were identified that would significantly bolster the availability and proximity of one of these life-saving devices.
Leixlip CFR, Clane CFR, and Edenderry CFR have each received two AEDs, with Prosperous FC and Robertstown CFR each receiving one.
